Your privacy, in plain words.

Krozd helps you meet the people you cross paths with and find things to do nearby. That only works if you trust it, so here is exactly what we collect, why, and what you control.

01Who we are

Krozd is made by KrozdSocial Labs Private Limited in India (“Krozd”, “we”, “us”). This policy covers the Krozd apps for iPhone and Android and this website. It works together with our Terms and Child Safety Standards.

02What we collect

Your account

Your phone number, so we can sign you in with a one-time code sent by SMS. Codes are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form and expire within minutes.

Your profile

Your name, birth year (to check you’re old enough), gender if you choose one (“Rather not say” is always an option), and what you add to your profile: photos, bio, vibes, personality cards and backdrop.

What you create and do

Messages, photos and GIFs you send; lobbies you join; circles and hubs you create or join; requests you send, accept or decline; events you save; and reports you make.

Your device

The type of device and a notification token, so we can send the notifications you’ve allowed. We also check that requests come from the real Krozd app, to block abuse.

Camera and microphone

Used only when you join a call or voice room, or when you choose to take or upload a photo.

Product analytics (adults only, and you can turn it off)

If you’re 18 or older, we use PostHog product analytics with a separate internal ID, to see which parts of Krozd work and which don’t. PostHog may work out an approximate city from your internet connection. We don’t send it your name, email, phone number, messages, birth year or precise location. Analytics is always off for anyone under 18, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings → Privacy.

Crash reports

Technical reports when the app crashes or something goes wrong, so we can fix it.

03How location works

Discovery is optional, and it never shows anyone where you are.

You choose the mode

  • Off. No location is sent. Scenes, chats, circles and your profile still work.
  • Active. Location is used only while Krozd is open. This is the default after you sign up.
  • Ambient. Occasional, low-power updates in the background (about every 30 minutes), so Discovery stays fresh between visits. You have to turn this on yourself and allow “Always” location, and you can switch it off anytime.

What happens to an update

  • The app asks for approximate location and uses low-accuracy, battery-friendly updates.
  • Each update is matched to a small area on a map grid, a hexagon roughly the size of a city block, so we can tell who’s been around each other.
  • The update itself is kept for about 30 minutes, then deleted automatically. We don’t keep a location history.

Crossings

When you spend time around someone else who has Discovery on, we save a crossing for the two of you. It records who it’s between, when it started and ended, and the map area where it began. We use this only to run crossings and keep them safe. It’s never shown to anyone: other people never see where, or exactly when, you crossed paths. They only see that you’ve been around each other, and get a chance to say hi if you both want to.

Crossings expire after a while. Either of you can hide one, and it’s then hidden for both of you.

Hubs and Scenes

Hubs are tied to map areas their creators pick, so being in a hub’s area can create a crossing with that hub. In Scenes, “Near me” uses your location (if you allow it) to sort events by distance.

Krozd isn’t a navigation, safety or emergency service. Please don’t rely on it for those.

04How we use it

  • To run Krozd: sign-in, profiles, crossings, Scenes, lobbies, chats, voice rooms, requests and notifications.
  • To pick events for you in “Picked for you”, based on the vibes in your profile and your city.
  • To keep people safe: reviewing reports, removing content, suspending or banning accounts, and stopping spam, fraud and fake accounts.
  • To improve Krozd, using analytics (for adults who haven’t turned it off) and crash reports.
  • To follow the law.

05What other people see

  • Your profile: name, photos, bio, vibes, cards and backdrop.
  • Shared context, like mutual connections, hubs and circles you’re both in.
  • In a lobby: that you’re in it, and what you post there.
  • A crossing with you, but never where or exactly when it happened.
  • Messages and requests you send them.

Nobody sees your location or your phone number. Connections only happen when both people agree: requests have to be accepted, and you can look inside a lobby before you join.

06Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal data. We share it only with companies that help us run Krozd, and only for that job:

  • Cloud hosting and storage, for our servers, databases and your photos.
  • MSG91, to send sign-in codes by SMS.
  • Google Firebase, for push notifications and checking that requests come from the real app.
  • LiveKit, to run live voice and video rooms (never recorded).
  • PostHog, for product analytics (adults only, and only if it’s on).
  • Sentry, for crash reports.

Event insights on Scenes tickets, like the expected crowd, are written with the help of AI services. They work from public event listings, not from your personal data. When you tap “Get tickets”, you go to the organiser’s or ticketing site, and their own policies apply there.

We may also share information with authorities when the law requires it, or when it’s needed to protect someone’s safety.

07Keeping it safe

  • Data is encrypted as it travels between the app and our servers.
  • Chat messages are encrypted when they’re stored on our servers (AES-256).
  • Sign-in codes are stored hashed and expire quickly, and deleting your account signs you out everywhere.
  • The support file you can export from the app contains no messages, phone numbers, coordinates or login tokens, and stays on your phone unless you share it.

No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and fix problems quickly.

08How long we keep it

  • Location updates: about 30 minutes.
  • Crossings: until they expire or someone hides them.
  • Your account and content: for as long as your account is open.
  • After you delete your account: see Delete account. Some information may be kept for up to 30 days for fraud prevention, legal compliance and backup recovery.
  • Reports, blocks and moderation actions may be kept longer, to keep the community safe and enforce our Terms.

09Your choices and rights

  • Change Discovery to Off, Active or Ambient in Settings → Discovery.
  • Turn analytics off in Settings → Privacy.
  • Choose which notifications you get: messages, calls, requests, crossings and hub invites.
  • Edit or remove anything on your profile, anytime.
  • Hide a crossing, block someone, or block and report them.
  • Delete your account in Settings → Delete Account.

You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@krozd.com. Depending on where you live (for example, under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have other rights too, and we’ll help you use them.

10Children and teens

  • You need to be at least 13 to use Krozd.
  • Analytics is always off for anyone under 18.
  • We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Read our Child Safety Standards.
  • If you believe a child under 13 is using Krozd, tell us at support@krozd.com and we’ll act on it.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Krozd grows. We’ll post changes on this page and update the date at the top.
